xpbs is a sucky GUI... no doubt. But it is about the only frontend out there. There is another project out of Korea... JPBS, which basically does what xpbs does in java instead of the clunky tk interface. It's prettier, and may have a few extra frills to it... not sure if they ever made a release or not.
I cc'd Jaeyoung Choi on this... he may be able to provide more information there.
