This message means that on a specific subnet, you're seeing network traffic from an alternate (separate) subnet on that interface. These packets are termed as martians because they're in a world where they don't belong. For example, if you have a 192.168.10.0/24 network, and you hook it up to your public interface, you'll might see legitimate (routable) packets -- say, from yahoo.com, slashdot.net or oscar.sourceforge.net :) -- that won't match your 192.168.10.0/24 subnet. You can turn off console messages with "dmesg -n 1" as root. Or, add a second meaningful IP address to your interface, viz-a-viz: ifconfig eth0:0 <...>, which will address the martian issue.
