Hi Frank
Thanks very much for getting back to me after a frustrating couple of days. I'm actually quite glad that the problem was something obscure and your explanation makes sense at a first glance. We are using fairly new MSI mainboards, 2.8 GHz Intel PIV(HT) processors and a mix of Seagate and Maxtor 8GB harddrives, with D-LINK NIC's, using the sundance driver. I didn't think the error of not finding /etc/fstab really made that much of a difference, but having the wrong kernel driver does. I compiled the kernels for PXE-booting and the kernel that the node would be booted with by hand, because the stock PXE-boot kernel doesn't contain the driver for our network cards. Since I've already spent days trying to diagnose this problem, I would very much appreciate it if you could point me at the correct kernel and perhaps the first reference to it in the list. Many thanks !
