I thought the mkbootpackage script was supposed to create all those files for you and put them in the correct location? (or at least it provides the mechanism to copy them to the right place with ease)
Cheers,

Hello oscar users (esp Bernard and Frank)
First of all, thank you both very much for your help with this nightmare install (not all OSCAR's fault, though).
I have made a progress on the kernel and booting issues. I've compiled a kernel that boots and allows systemimager to partition the node hard drive.
The differences between my config and the standard one are below : 225c225 < CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDISK=y ---
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDISK=m
231c231 < CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDISK_MAXTOR is not set ---
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDISK_MAXTOR is not set
504c504 < CONFIG_SUNDANCE=y ---
# CONFIG_SUNDANCE is not set
This got my node to recognise the network card and the hard drive.
The problem wasn't tremendous in the end, just very very confusing (to me).
I'm now experiencing "unresolved symbols" when the pxe kernel modules are loaded, but I think this is an unrelated error and I'm trying to sort it out. I copied the /lib/modules directory of my custom kernel to /usr/share/systemimager/boot/i386/standard and put it in the boel_binaries.tar.gz tarball. I've also run depmod on the modules on the server and i've got the same dependancy errors, so I think i'll have to solve that before continuing. I'll try using the standard boel_binaries.tar.gz tarball next, since I assume that has no problems.
Thanks again very much for your help; the powers up high tend not to be very understanding of delays like this !
Bruce
