Dear all,
I've recently set up three oscar cluster each with 16 slave nodes using their own dedicated gigabit network switch. However, I am concerned by the speed of the communications between the different nodes. I believe that there is quite a large amount of latency involved with the connections.
I was wondering whether any of you have experience in testing the communications between nodes? The tools that we have used here seem to be very unreliable, returning largely variable values even though there is no other use on the network at the same time as testing. Also different tools seem to give very different results to each other.
Does anybody have a feel for typical latency times involved with gigabit cluster communications? Are there any tools that reliably measure latency time over the connections?
I am keen to optimise these communications as far as is possible. Does anybody have any experience of performing these optimisations and if so could you please direct me to some documentation on this sort of work?
Do the sort of optimisations that apply to 10 / 100 megabit communications equally apply to gigabit communication?
Any help that you could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help,
Richard
