Hello Bertrand,

Images are simply directories so you can very easily backup them.

There is a tool dedicated to the image manipulation called cpimage.

Please use the following method :
cpimage image-name image-name-backup-2004.05.12

This will allow you to have two images, namely 
image-name and image-name-backup-2004.05.12

You can then "play" with your image called "image-name" and push the
changed to your nodes while keeping a "working and safe" backup image
called image-name-backup-2004.05.12
