Hi Bernard,

Ok, i see your post and old post too on this subject, many thanks for your details.

Actually, nodes are with 2 GB/processor, but maybe we plan to upgrade the RAM later, because we will use regional ocean model with lot of parameters : physic + biology + geochemistry. Experience from our colleague, whos work with similar code, show they upgrade RAM.
So I would like to install a good and full relevant 64 bit OS now, in order to be ready with this side next.

Is Redhat 3 WS x86_64 fully supported and finally the one and only SOLUTION ?

Is RPMs rebuild under Fedora easy and fast? Did you have links, trick ?

With Fedore core 2 (and 3), we are encountering hardware trouble with the sataraid 2410SA from adpatec. This is a know trouble, which appears in the partionning stage (alarm and hang : see www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-December/msg04100.html). From Adaptec, they are no support, just for Redhat. We are trying to install Fedoro core 2 in simple SATA mode today.

Many thanks and best regard

Hi Jerome:

OSCAR 4.0 currently only supports FC2 i386; x86_64 is not supported yet.

Do your nodes have > 4G of RAM? If not, then unless for special reasons, the i386 version will work just fine.

You are more than welcome to try to see if OSCAR 4.0 will work on FC2 x86_64, you will need to compile RPMs from their sources such that you can generate x86_64 RPMs.

If you do intend to try this out, please feel free to post your results in the oscar-devel list.

Cheers,

Bernard
