Title: [Oscar-users] useradd - nis server not head node
Hi Susanne:

Have you always been using NIS for user authentication or is this something new?

What does the 'passwd:' line look like for /etc/nsswitch.conf on your headnode?

Cheers,

Bernard

Subject: [Oscar-users] useradd - nis server not head node

Hi everybody,
I am running Oscar 4 on Fedora Core 2. My NIS server is running RHEL4.
I recently added two new users and  they can not ssh to the nodes.
When I ssh to the nodes as root and do an " su username" this works
fine and also "ypcat passwd"  on the nodes gives me the new user, but
the new users do not show up in the /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow files (I
guess they shouldn't with NIS). Trying an " ssh n22 -l testusr" returns
" permission denied" and "Illegal user testusr from ::ffff:IP" in the
/var/log/secure.
How do I get the nodes to recognize the new users? Do I just change the
configuration in the /opt/sync_files/etc/sync_files.conf so that the
/etc/passwd and /etc/shadow will be updated as well or will this not
work since my headnode is not my NIS server?
Thanks for any suggestions,
Susanne
