Have you tried swapping a known working floppy disk drive (from one of the 7 nodes you were able to image) with one of the nodes that couldn't boot?
It sounds to me the problem is with the floppy disk drive (even the new one you tried). If the floppy worked on one system, it should work on all systems. mkautoinstallcd should be pretty easy to use. I think initially it asks for what 'flavour' (so just answer 'standard') and output is something like 'sis_boot.iso' (name of the ISO file). Then you can burn the ISO on a CD and you're done.
