Yup, I know Oscar is pretty much a general linux cluster, but there is
one "major" difference, in that it's more restricted in which distros
are supported.
Gaussian can use linda, if you're running it as a multi-node job, but it
can also run as a single cpu/node job without Linda. I'm more
interested in just getting it working now, maybe add the Linda at
another point. Their site, and my experience, is that the gaussian code
does not compile nicely anywhere, and the few supported platforms they
do have are very restrictive. For example, their supported OS for
AMD/Athlon is : "SuSE Linux 8.2, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3; Red Hat Linux 8.0.
Other versions are not supported." and complier required for that
platform is : "Portland Group F77 5.1-*" and gcc included with distro..
Not a fun piece of code to get behaving :)

Paul,
I've never used Gaussian on an OSCAR cluster. An OSCAR cluster,
however, is in many ways just a generic Linux cluster. There is nothing
that would preclude Gaussian from running. I assume Gaussian on a
cluster still uses Linda from SCA, right? There could be some kernel
dependencies from Linda, but I seriously doubt it. Back in my Linda
days, we depended on vanilla UDP to keep Linda running.
Let me know if you have any problems or if I can be of any assistance.
I have a good friend in your neck of the woods and head up to Edmonton
every two or three months.

Subject: [Oscar-users] Gaussian and an Oscar Cluster
Hi all,
I'm trying to get a cluster here converted to oscar, rather then hand
installed nodes (not mine), but it's pretty much a gaussian (g03)
dedicated monster. Has anyone out there used gaussian on an oscar
cluster? What host OS were you using?
Thanks
