Dear OSCAR community:

With the next release of SystemImager (3.7.4), si_monitortk's virtual console has been enhanced such that full standard out is now recorded and the detail console log can be viewed from the image server (headnode).  The down side is that performance will be bad unless you have the --no-listing flag enabled when we execute si_mkautoinstallscript:

--no-listing           Don't show each filename as it is copied over during
install.  This is useful for times when your console
device is slow (e.g. serial console), and is the
                        bottleneck of your installation.

This flag will prevent the printing of the filename that is being rsynced from the image server (headnode)'s image directory to the clients (compute nodes).

I'd just like to get some feedback from the community before we go ahead and make this change.  Do users find it useful to have that information (filename being copied over) displayed during imaging or is it not a big deal?

This behaviour only affects rsync as flamethrower and bittorrent transport do not provide file listing information.  And if it is disabled, it will be disabled both on the "physical" console as well as the virtual console.

Thanks for your feedback in advance.

OSCAR on!

Bernard
