I am installing Oscar 4.2 on RedHat EL AS 4.0 base (no updates) under
VMWare Workstation 5.5.1 build-19175 on Windows XP. All of the nodes
(master and slaves) use IDE disks.
I have no problems until after I try and boot the newly imaged slave
nodes. I unselected pfilter like it suggests in the manual, but when I
try and boot the slave nodes from hard disk, I get two errors. First,
grub gives the error:
root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-5.ELsmp ro root=/dev/hda6
{Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0x154492c]
initrd
Error 1: Filename must be either an absolute pathname or blocklist
I noticed that the initrd line was missing the initrd file. So when I add
initrd /initrd-2.6.9-5.ELsmp.img
Linux will continue to boot until I get the second error:
Mounted /proc filesystem
Mounting sysfs
Creating /dev
Starting udev
Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
mount: missing mount point
mount: error 2 mounting none
Switching to new root
switchroot: mount failed: 22
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
It seems that Oscar transfered the files correctly since I can boot to
the slave nodes with a rescue CD and see all of the partitions and files
on the disk. Have you seen this problem with VMWare? I'm hoping to try
this install on real machines, but I really need for it to work in VMWare.
Any help would be appreciated.
