Bernard, I was testing i386. You mention that BUSLOGIC is enabled as a module for the BOEL kernel (2.6.16-boel_v3.7.4), but the error is that it isn't enabled for kernel 2.6.9-5.ELsmp, which is RedHat's kernel. The kernel-devel RPM, which provides the source, is not installed in the client image by default. When I installed it and looked at the .config file for the kernel, I found that BUSLOGIC is not enabled.
# CONFIG_SCSI_BUSLOGIC is not set This would explain why initrd cannot build a module for BUSLOGIC using RedHat's default 2.6.9-5.ELsmp kernel (it also fails using later updates to the 2.6.9 kernel in RH ELAS 4). Since I have the option of using LSI Logic instead of BUSLOGIC, I'm satisfied with not rebuilding the RedHat kernel. However, it is nice to know that the default RedHat kernel no longer supports BUSLOGIC by default. Thanks for your help.
