Several issues I've noticed with the process of installation via the
BOAL - only small amount of disk controller modules are being loaded,
which might leave a system "without" disks, while the module is actually
there, but never loaded.
I have noticed this with HT1000 controllers (SATA) which I solved by
hacking the image.master file (replace image with the name of the image)
and adding, in line 96, the line "modprobe sata_svw"
I did not deal with IDE disks, so I don't know if such a solution would
work. Maybe detecting teh correct controller and loading the right
module would solve it.

Hi,
I tried the image on another machine (different arch, single CPU,
different chipset SIS this one AMD 8111 the other one) and it doesn't see
the hard drives either!!!
What I get on the client is:
----------------------------------
IP from DHCP server on the master node OK!
hostname of the client ok!
autodetect_hardware_and_load_modules
Detecting hardware:
sis900 usb-ohci usb-ohci ehci-hcd
.. should I see the disk here?
Loading ide-disk ok!
Loading sis900 and usb ok!
run_autoinstall_script
/scripts/jclient14.sh
get_arch
enumerate_disks
DISKS=0
NO DISK DEVIEC FILES WERE FOUND, THIS USUALLY MEANS THE KERNEL DID NOT
RECOGNIZE ANY OF THE ATTACHED DISKS
-----------------------
I can't scroll all the way back on the client (only a few screens) and I
can't see any errors. I can only see something like 'modprobe.dep not
found' while booting but it doesn't stay there long enough for
me to read it and I don't know how to stop it and get more info.
Checked again and I have the followinf message:
modprobe: can't parse module.dep
Could it be is not locating some of the modules? If so what should I
check? The image in /var/lib/systemimager/images/fc-5-i386 has the
/lib/modules/<kernel> modules in there!
It seems weird that it doens't work on 2 different arch .. something in
the image building is not working or I didn't setup it correctly.
Booting both machines from FC5 DVD and starting the installation will show
the disks!
Any ideas?
Thank you
David
PS -> When I 'force' DISK0=/dev/hda in the installation script it comes
back telling me:
Error: Could not stat device /dev/hda
The disk is there, working and BIOS sees it ok!
/dev in the image is empty (only console, mapper, null and initctl are
there). THANK YOU!!

Subject: Problem with client installation (and question)
Hi All,
I'm new to the list and Oscar use in general.
I've being working on having the new master (we have an old, "hand made"
cluster) running FC5 and Oscar 5.0.
No problem until I tried to install the clients.
Network boot works fine but then the booting sequence on the client can't
find the HDD and the installation stops!!
I have regular 40GB IDE drives on the machines and I've used the fc5
sample rpmlist and the ide.disk supplied with the oscar distribution.
Does anyone had the same problem?
Also I have a question .. I'll need to install some of the updates on both
the master node and the clients and I can't find any info on how to deal
with the clients. Do I need to recover the updated RPMs by hand and
rebuild the image? Is there an automated tools that will help that
process?
Thank you
David
