Actually, this is just a random symptom of the fact that OSCAR 5.0 doesn't support the Itanium architecture currently. If that section of OS_Detect was enabled it would actually be looking for /tftpboot/distro/oscar-rhel-4-ia64 if I recall correctly from before that section was pulled out. When I saw the "unknown" part I suspected you might be running on unsupported hardware.
It was on its way to working when we ran out of time, but a brief survey indicated no one was especially interested in running OSCAR on Itanium so we pulled the files out of the release. But since you clearly are interested, perhaps we can discuss this issue again.
