Tried a few things...
when I telnet to port 8649 on one of the compute nodes and look at thew output I can see that each node has no information about any of the other nodes. Also, looking at tcpdump -i eth0 udp and port 8649 on a (few of) node I can only see the node sending but no incoming traffic. Not sure where to go from here.
