Hi Jerome, I don't think installing oscar 5.1 on PPC64 would cause a big problem any more. Basically YDL5-ppc64 would make it a little easier for you to setup OSCAR 5.1 on your XServer because most OSCAR packages are already compiled with PPC64 and OSCAR can recognize YDL5-ppc64 without tweaking distro scripts too much. Of course, you can try to install all the other distros that OSCAR support (I am sure that you would install the distro of ppc(64), right?) but you would need to spend more time to recompile all the packages for the distros and tweak more works on them.
Anyway, have you tried to install YDL5-ppc64 on your XServer? I have tried to install some linux distros (F7-X86_64 and RHEL4-X86_64, RHEL5.1-X86_64) on my XServer with Intel CPU but it could not recognize the linux installation CD/DVD because the XServer firmware could not understand the linux kernel. I found some articles for this problem and there is a way to avoid this problem but I could not try it any more. Since your XServer is on PPC64, the firmware may just work with the linux distros. I believe that if you can handle the issue of installing linux distros on your XServer box, you are almost done with the oscar installation.
