OSCAR, of course ;)

Seriously, which is better depends entirely on what you are trying to use
your cluster for.

OSCAR, in its default state, creates a beowulf style cluster where programs
running on the cluster are generally specifically designed to run in a
clustered environment. At the least, a bit of script programing is needed
to use an OSCAR cluster. Generally this type of cluster scales very well
because the programs designed to run in this kind of environment are by
definition highly parallel.

OpenMOSIX, or OSCAR using its Single System Image package, which makes all
the cluster nodes and the head node into one large SMP box. Basically this
allows someone to log into the head node and run any program in an
environment with all the memory and CPU power of the entire cluster. This
sounds very appealing, but like with SMP boxes, you don't generally notice a
significant improvement in performance (and often see slow down) because
very few programs are writen to take advantage of multiple processors or
large memory environments.

Now, there are also several other types of environment commonly called
"clusters", including web server clusters and voip clusters, but these are
generally very application specific. OSCAR and OpenMOSIX are not designed
with any particular program in mind, but a broad class of generally
scientific applications.

Hope this helps.
