hi! a bunch of have worked on this issue in the past, especially when the free trade agreement (FTA) was being discussed. khairil, yusseri, dr nah, dinesh, yk, aizat, and myself are familiar with the issues and have provided some information to several government agencies on intellectual rights[0].
i believe the team at OSCC are also very knowledgeable in this area. i wrote a paper some time back on software patents. in addition, nsh, dinesh and myself also wrote to the newspapers when software patents was being discussed in the media. you can find the paper and the letter to the editor here: http://ditesh.gathani.org/writings.php we also invited richard stallman (rms) in 2005 to educate interested parties on the danger of software patents. over 600 people attended the event in penang and kl. rms also had an article published in The Edge newspaper to educate the business community on the danger of software patents. it is recognized that software patents have been a destructive force in the software industry. in malaysia, given our software industry is very nascent, it is important that we do what is necessary to protect our national sovereign interests.
