Dr. M is a freak. He is obsessed with becoming No.1. Do not argue with this fact because he did become no.1. And he did made Malaysia No.1 in few categories. Question is do the rest share his obsession?
When i was born in Singapore, my dad was in the army frmo Penang, and my mum from Singapore. When Singapore separated few years later, my dad choose the upper side of the causeway. Been kiasu, he thinks more land means better survival. When he puts me into primary school, he choose SRJK(Inggeris) Jalan Kuantan, where i met Razak Bagnda as my senior. Oops, digressed. Back to main code. He choosed English telling me that it has more chance of survival than Malay or Chinese. Moral of my childhood is that in the army i grew up in Wardieburn Camp, surrounded by mostly Malays and Ibans (agi idup agi ngelaban) away from Chinese. I realised that my dad made the wrong decisions for the right reasons. I learnt from my environment that locals are very nice, but too nice as in not caring to be no.1. They do not have the killer instinct. They let ppl shove them back. They take things lying down. It was heavenly life i tell you in the barracks of no chinese around, but i got the point later in life about me still chinese blood in malay clothing. But i improvised on those wrong decisions. I learnt about becoming No.1 too. I choose Islam after learning it is the right at the top of truth. I choose IT in 1981 as it was starting to breed. To cut a long story short, 25 years later, i finally scored a No.1 myself. But i owe it to Dr. M because on a fateful day up in the gallery in 1993, in Parliament i saw and hear him speak for the first time. It converted me from Islamic fanaticism to Mahathirism - a witty mix of self-humility and, you guessed it, becoming No.1. FOSS gave me that big break. But it was uncanny. What is FOSS? How do we take it? How do we exploit it? It needs a rethink of the chess board. This is a new weapon of the 21st century. It has gaps. At least for us here. I remembered when i first struck on Compiere in 2004, how i was so hopeful to be in the developer's list there. I was willing to be Jorg Janke (owner of Compiere) khadam just to be in the 50 member list. Ironically 2 years later i not only got something better as the leader of my own list in ADempiere fork of Compiere, but beats the crap out of it. And then within a month in October 2006, a SAP blogger mentioned ADempiere as a threat! I was delirous. What a sudden spike in luck. Today if you take a look at www.adempiere.com you can see what is brooding in the background. It can and shall take on the No.1 ERP player in the world of 60B USD ocean. But just imagine from a small 8 yr old boy playing guli and layang in Warieburn Camp after May 13, 1969, i get to reach such height. And i only owe it not to money from my poor alcoholic and gambling dad, or strict Confucian mum, but from someone i hardly met but whose grace and temparment has unleashed a rare feeling in my bones. Dr. Mahathir has told us that "Yes, we can" without the exclamation mark of Obama years after him. Mahathir said "Malaysia Boleh" when we never and still cannot keep our head above water. He was blamed for every failure and forgotten for every success. But Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad need not do more for me. He dropped onto my head one basic idea, "What is stopping you?". Poverty and failures may numb my skull. But it cannot prevent an idea whose time has come. It is time to take our position as No.1 You lead, and if you cannot lead, then you follow. And if you cannot follow, then get out of my way. red1 --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Join Open Source Developers Club Malaysia http://www.osdc.my/ Facebook Fan page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=98685301577 http://www.facebook.com/OSDC.my You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "OSDC.my Mailing List" group.
