Nothing but agreement here! They just do not love what they do not know. Like the saying, "tak kenal maka tak cinta" Its not just here, but worldwide the ratio of mathematical minds are a fraction. One way out I can do is to inspire rather than teach. I am not a guru on Java, so that is why i want to pair with Azrul. Just now i spent the better of the noon with Azrul and go thru some killer addon onto ADempiere which is a menu>window>tab>field painter, something which can score him a top spot in the project.
Scoring wins and kudos in FOSS is exciting, daunting but simple. Just do something well no matter how small and let the rest of the magic happens. Don't worry about what the world or your professor (Andy Tanenbaum) says. What i did in my farm was just tutorials for noticing some pieces here and there in nicely laced PDFs. It turned out that the world love it. Till now i learnt a damn lot but still intimidated. Listening and researching Brian Aker, a key contributor to MySQL and Drizzle creator that is putting pieces for something like an 8 core Sun machine is inspiring. I may never master C++ also, but at least i got a love to just try, and try, and try.
