There is nothing wrong if a company or an individual wants to use prop. technology. Pay the license and knock yourself out. But when it comes to gov. education instituion, glc or any entity with public/national interest, transparency is a must and potential lock down by anyone be it Microsoft or Google is not a luxury one can enjoy. This is because any entity with public/national interest at its heart must be as independent as the nation it upholds. Allowing willy nilly lock down should be equated to treachery, at least in spirit. Now, nothing here says that FOSS solution should be cheap, in fact, it should be more expensive since the creator releases control of his intelectual property in total.
