Because they are hired or paid because of their credit, if you work your ass out for some foss projects, your contribution basically overwhelmed by the author themselves, this is my thought and irony of life of being an unnamed contributor, people don't care how much or how good you did, they just want to see your name... for them, you're nothing better than a script kiddie if you are not famous/significant enough XD our business is nothing much different with entertainment biz...
