i have looked at quite a lot of oss business models - and there are plenty of them
the one that i like is sponsored work. like in our case - our clients pay not only for implementation but also for developing open source software. we tell our client about this. and our clients like it when they know that other clients are also sponsoring work into the development and maintenance of the software. by the way my clients are government ;-) and our apps are not compatible with all browsers ;-) meaning anything less than ie8 will not work.... before you start screaming... it works on ff 3x, chrome. the newer ones that handle javascript properly. putting code as open source is also good quality assurance practice for us, as many more 'eyes' are viewing the codes - making our software portable for other clients. as we are now finding out - now cleaning up the config and hard coded bits ... this is the part that is slowing our code commit to http://github.com/idafx/IDA-Framework On Tue, Apr 27, 2010 at 3:49 PM, CL Chow <[email protected]> wrote: > a great idea, basically it's what a foss business model should be, isn't > it??? > > Regards, > CL Chow > "Please do not send me Microsoft Office/Apple iWork documents.
