wokay. met up with the skalicloud people

quick responses:

   1. trial can be extended for real developers up to 14 days - sign up for
the 5 day trial, then contact customer care asking to extend
   2. technology used is actually partner's from the uk (i suspect
openhosting coz some of the sales phrases are similar)
   3. skalicloud is positioned as infrastructure as a service (i see it as
like renting a dedicated server but with the ability to scale the server
   elastic)
   4. the web interface is somewhat comparable to virtualbox, but setting up
a ubuntu 10.04 64bit is very fast (less than 1 minute) and you can have and
control multiple virtual machines from the same interface.
   5. they have already sold 60% of their capacity since launch in dec 2010
   - hot !
   6. no oracle database installation yet - but this is possible.
   7. there is a 100% uptime guarantee (raid and high availability is
   already pre-built)
   8. skalicloud is not for hpc - high performance computing.

i forgot to ask if they can do a demo for the community ! but i think this
should not be a problem.

imho, good for seasonal high traffic portals (like lhdn) or those with batch
backend processing.

in terms of pricing this is equivalent to dedicated server with equivalent
specs (starting from rm500 per month), but with skalicloud you can scale
down and only use what you really need eg smaller storage space, so it will
be cheaper.
