California Consumers Settle MS Antitrust Suit
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/01/11/0254200

[0]lseltzer writes "[1]According to AP, $1.1B in Microsoft products
will go to California consumers to settle antitrust claims against the
company. I bet the lawyers don't get paid in software." Actually, the
article says that those who apply for some of the settlement will
receive "vouchers redeemable for any manufacturer's computer-related
    products and software."

Nintendo To Sell Old Consoles To China?

drfishy writes "An [0]interview with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata on
IGN hints at the possibility of Nintendo entering the Chinese market
with their products soon. The most curious part of the interview is
that Satoru Iwata says Nintendo is considering releasing older
generation hardware to combat piracy, could this mean the big N is
going to start making Super Nintendos again? Will there be new games?
    How would this fight piracy?"

RCA PVR Will Use Free Guide+ Program Guide

program guide rather than requiring an oncoming program guide contract.
Once we bring the price down (yes, I work there) I may break down and
get one, as I don't like the program guide fee required on current
PVRs. (This may be the first no-program guide-fee commercial PVR.)"

What Lawyers Can Learn From Manga
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/01/10/2256238

Microsoft Drops .NET Name For Next Windows Server

RIAA Settlement: Possible Consumer Payback
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/01/10/1936203

Mandrake Releases 9.1b1, New Packaging Model

DCowern writes "Mandrake today [0]announced version 9.1 of their

(like kernel 2.4.21pre2 and XFree86 4.3 beta) the most groundbreaking
thing about this release is the way in which they decide which packages
are "high priority" for development and inclusion in the standard

Free Software Licenses Revocable?

enables Java programs to define a new class at runtime and to modify a
class file when the JVM loads it. Unlike other similar systems,
Javassist provides source-level abstraction; programmers can use
Javassist without detailed knowledge of the Java bytecode. This ease of
use is a unique feature of Javassit against other tools.

http://freshmeat.net/releases/109068/

Kernel Mode Linux is a technology which enables the execution of user
programs in a kernel mode. In Kernel Mode Linux, user programs can
access kernel address space directly. Unlike kernel modules, user
programs are executed as ordinary processes (except for their privilege
level), so scheduling and paging are performed as usual. Although it
seems dangerous, the safety of the kernel can be ensured through such
methods as static type checking, software fault isolation, and so
    forth.
