Red Hat Posts Its Best Quarter Yet
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/09/19/0319257

wrinkledshirt writes "Anybody remember the days when the naysayers said
you couldn't build a viable business model centered around open-source
    software? [0]After Red Hat's 2nd quarter report, well, insert(&mouth,
FOOT); is all I have to say. Okay, okay, the hubris of a Linux zealot
aside, the numbers look pretty good. Revenue for the quarter was $28
million, with net income at $3 million. You'd think SCO's blathering
would have damaged them, but they're actually up the last couple of
quarters after posting some net losses in previous quarters." Kudos to
Red Hat. They must be doing something right.

VeriSign Sued Over SiteFinder Service
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/09/19/039214

dmehus writes "It was only a matter of time, the pundits said, and they
were right. [0]Popular Enterprises, LLC., an Orlando, Florida based
cybersquatting so-called 'search services' company, has [1]filed a
lawsuit in Orlando federal court against VeriSign, Inc. over VeriSign's
controversial SiteFinder 'service.' While PopularEnterprises has had a
dodgy history of buying up thousands of expired domain names and
redirecting them to its [2]Netster.com commercial "search services"
site, the lawsuit is most likely a good thing, as it provides one more
avenue to pursue in getting VeriSign to terminate [3]SiteFinder.
According to the lawsuit, the company contends alleges antitrust
violations, unfair competition and violations of the Deceptive and
Unfair Trade Practices Act. It asks the court to order VeriSign to put
a halt to the service. VeriSign spokesperson Brian O'Shaughnessy said
the company has not yet seen the lawsuit and that it doesn't comment on
    pending litigation."

Monty Python's Holy Grail goes Broadway

Sixyphe writes "First sighted on [0]Yahoo News, it would seem that
[1]Eric Idle of [2]Monty Python fame is working on a [3]Broadway
musical [4]adaptation of everybody's favorite source of accurate
medieval data, [5]Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The goal is 2005,

Using an Old Satellite Dish as a WLAN Antenna
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/09/19/0053233

[0]=m8s=Dark Underlord writes "I was browsing for wireless stuff and
came across this link that shows [1]how to use an old satellite dish as
an 802.11 antenna." The directions tout the range as being 10 miles
given line of sight. We've had other stories about [2]building
antennas, but I think these are cooler because of their focused nature,
but a Primestar dish is a little tougher to locate than a Pringles can

Computer Makers Sued Over Hard Drive Size
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/09/18/2245200

FPCat writes "Finally, some one is doing something about one of my pet
peeves. It seems a [0]group of people are suing Apple, Dell, Gateway,
HP, and others for misleading consumers about hard disk sizes. About
time someone spoke up and said '1000 MB != 1 GB'" It's not much of a
mystery to anyone who's up on industry practices, but it's similar to
the way graphic displays are sized, cereal boxes are filled, and so on.
Andy Rooney could have a field day with this one.

Booting Linux Faster

Newsforge Reports
Yet another wormy reason to switch from Windows to Linux
http://newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/09/18/2142224

    - by Joe Barr - The recent spate of email borne viruses/worms/trojans
and similar nasties which have befallen Windows users isn't over, and
it isn't likely to be for some time. Discussions about why this is true
and who -- if anyone -- can be held responsible for the mess are for a
different time. I simply want to make the point that Linux users have a
huge advantage over those running Windows: We don't have to be afraid
    of the email we receive.
