Slashdot
Motorola's i95cl
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/27/2358229

thefalconer writes "MSNBC has a very detailed article about Motorola's
new [0]all-in-wonder phone offered by Nextel. It is a PDA, has a
Walkie-Talkie, phone, web browser, instant messaging, addressbook, it
has a high resolution Color LCD screen, and it's running on a Java
Based OS! It even comes in a variety of styles and colors just to your
taste. There is so much to this phone that it makes you ask "how'd they
get all that, into this tiny little thing?" Makes me want to ditch my
old phone for one of these right now!"

Codeplay Responds to NVidia's Cg
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/27/2351222

[0]Da Masta writes "[1]Codeplay Director Andrew Richards has some
[2]interesting things to say about NVidia's Cg graphics language. Just
to refresh, Codeplay is the company that publishes [3]Vector C, the
badassed, high performance C compiler. In brief, it seems as though Cg
isn't the universal, standard graphics language [4]some pass it off to
be. Certain design considerations in the language, such as the lack of
    integers, break/continue/goto/case/switch structures, and pointers
suggest a general lack of universal usefulness. This leads to suspicion
that NVidia plans to add and tailor the language in the future
according to its own hardware and their respective features. Of course,
this is all old news to those of us who noticed NVidia co-developed the
    language with the [5]Evil Empire."

Virtual Sword Fighting
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/27/2053211

[0]Faeton writes "SIGGRAPH is on, and Extremetech has the scoop on it.
    From Nvidia's N30 to ATI's monster 4x Radeon 9700 render board, the
coolest thing was the virtual sword fighting simulator. With a [1]VR
headset and a gyroscopic force-feedback "sword", you could really be
the badass knight you've always dreamed of. I want this at a local
    arcade soon!"

Microsoft's Big Stick in Peru
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/27/2021201

An anonymous reader points out a Wired story on the continuing Peru
saga. In this latest episode, Wired notes that the U.S. Ambassador to
Peru has chimed in [0]in support of Microsoft and in opposition to Dr.
Villanueva's bill which would have mandated open source software be
used by the Peruvian government. On the one hand, sure, our diplomats
have a national goal of promoting U.S. enterprise, but do we have to
promote companies which we are simultaneously pursuing in court for
numerous violations of our laws? Isn't that a bit counter-productive?

http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/27/1532201

[0]PhotonSphere writes "Having helped organize [1]HoustonWireless.org,
this really caught my attention! A Houston computer security analyst
has been charged with 'hacking' after demonstrating the insecurity of a
court's wireless LAN! This happened Wednesday and is only now getting
the attention of the wireless community. The Register has the full
    [2]story."

Pedal Powered Wireless Networked Computer?
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/24/1835248

[0]Friends of Jhai asks: "An NGO called Jhai Foundation, which is
building Internet learning Centers in Laos has enlisted Computer
Hall-of-Famer [1]Lee Felsenstein to build a cheap, locally assembled,
wirlelessly networked PC and communications system. The current details
of the machine are [2]here and the application is [3] here. They are
looking for similar systems under way that they might work with or
which might be ready for deployment. Anyone have any URL's we can check
out?" Great! Now you can get your computing and exercising done at the
same time! What other types of technology have people managed to adapt
to man-power as opposed to boring ol' AC outlets?

Modern Retro computing
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/27/1553226

Sebby writes "This is pretty neat - the folks over at [0]retrosystem
rebuild old computers/consoles with new guts inside. They have Amiga
1000, Atari 2600, and also NES systems, with lots of options for
configuration. If they only made a [1]Sinclair ZX81 with the same
specs, I'd be sold!" I mean, who wouldn't want a PC in an NES box ;)

Back to the Moon?
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/27/149230

An anonymous reader writes "This BBC story discusses the prospects of
[0]probes returning to the moon. The article first mentions the ESA's
[1]SMART-1 probe, which will overfly the Apollo landing sites during
2003, and then talks with US scientists about why [2]NASA should send
    probes back."

Fahrenheit
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/07/27/144247

[0]LukeG writes "As games developers constantly seek new methods of
tapping into the mass market, the French team at Quantic Dream have
taken their inspiration from the television in developing
‘Fahrenheit’, what they claim will be the world’s first interactive
TV series, an episodic 3D-adventure set in New York. Here’s a [1]full

I love lazy summer Friday afternoons. The only hard part is making it
to the end of the day. That's especially true if your stuck reading
long detailed documents. Well, now you needn't sit at attention. You
can relax back into your chair and read those documents without ever
    touching your keyboard.
