The original issue has not been resolved. I have not found any information that suggest that I can turn Framebuffer Console support off from userspace. Also, if one did manage to turn it off the next interesting exercise would be to turn it back on again . . . without the console display! I can stop the cursor blinking and blank the display only for a split second. I suspect that blanking the display is not the same thing as disabling Framebuffer Console support.
I should have said, the Qt application works properly; ie no blinking cursor in the background and the backlight says on. If there is something I have missed I'd appreciate any suggestions.
