but that is missing the point surely?

isnt the point :

Are there open source alternatives to what sos does?

(not, is it an alternative to flashout.)

then surely the answer is yes, there are open source logging solutions, for flash. There are also open source logging solutions for things other than flash (e.g. log4j and the chainsaw log viewer, log4php, etc..)

anyway, if im missing the point, then im happy to be told that is the case

p.s. log toolers, personally i would like to see an open source logging system for flash that integrates with chainsaw.

:)

Hi Aral,

I dont see any problems.
Powerflasher.SOS is NOT an alternative to flashout. It is a generic
logging tool with a programmable interface. It does not depend on any
specific log client. You can log with Flash as well as PHP, Java and
C++. SOS is a native Windows/Java application.

The OSFlash policy on this pretty clear: If there is an open-source alternative, there's really no need to list a closed-source alternative.

OSFlash is a resource for *open source* Flash. There are many other resource sites that list free and commercial Flash-related products. If your product is a Flashout alternative, since there is currently no open-source Flashout alternative (that I am aware of -- keep in mind I just got back from two weeks of vacation) I don't see why you shouldn't add this tool to the closed source flash tools page. However, from the features listed, it doesn't appear to be a Flashout alternative but rather an alternative logging tool. If this is the case, then I don't see why it should be listed on the site as there are already open-source

alternatives.

So, I guess it's up to you to answer your own question based on what your tool does :)

All the best,
Aral
