my understanding was that whatever player you used determined the AS version and global scope. Meaning, if you launch your SWF in the MX player, then you're stuck with it's capabilities regardless of loading a 2004 swf in it at runtime.
How is it that you found a second _global?
The reason I ask is, I just did a test, where I published an FP6 swf then loaded an FP7 swf into it with the Xray connector. I had to call Xray.initConnections() when the FP7 swf loaded, but was able to look through the app a bit - meaning, it acted the way I would expect the AS1/FP6 host would. I did a snapshot on _global and it came back the way it ought to showing the mx and com packages that were loaded when the FP7 swf was loaded.
Thanks for your help David, I would love to get this one ironed out ;)

I don't know if this is related or not, but if you have 2 swfs, and
one is publish for FP6 and the other is published for FP7, and one of
them loads the other one, then they actually have 2 separate _global
scopes, and cannot access each other's. (Note that class prototypes
are loaded on _global internally)
