Hi John,

Ok - here's a few of mine:

Can I modify and redistribute these classes? If I do, must I affix the MM copyright notice? For example - can I move these classes into a different namespace, then redistribute the source code under an open source licence? Would that constitute fair use, a derivative work, or an infringement? (It's likely that the Open Source licence would pose more of a problem than the  Macromedia one, but I'd like to know)

Could you provide an imaginary hypothetical example of the kinds of circumstances that *would* lead to MM taking legal action?

I must say, the 50 lines of non-comment example code restriction seems a bit random. The material value thing is fair enough, but the material value of, say, moving the class into a different namespace would be pretty debatable, but sometimes necessary or desirable.

Is the Supplemental Licence compatible with the following popular Open Source Licences?

GPL 2
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/gpl-license.php

LGPL
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/lgpl-license.php

Apache Licence 2.0:
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/apache2.0.php

BSD Licence:
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.php

Mozilla Public Licence:
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mozilla1.1.php

Apple Public Licence:
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/apsl-2.0.php

Sun Public Licence:
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/sunpublic.php

I've omitted the creative commons licence, because it's a bit unclear as to exactly how this applies to source code.

I'm not trying to make MM run up massive legal bills or anything, I'm just curious.

Cheers,
Alias

I don't think I'm qualified to answer escalation questions on this, but
does this source document help in any way?
http://www.macromedia.com/software/eula/tools/flash_components.html

If not, then is there any kind of FAQ-like question I could propose to
the legal team as an addition?

For what it's worth, I don't think I'd be able to ask this of Legal
as-is, because they'd want to inspect which actual "open source license"
was in use in this case... if I could cite a particular URL then I think
I could get better results.

jd
