Hmm good info thanks. I was actually hoping that one of the Red 5 guys would understand how to tap into those rtmp streams. Seems like I ought to be able to point those streams to anything that could understand the data transferred over that protocol irregardless of whether it was a media server or a desktop app.

Also anyone no how the PHP pseudo buffering of flv works? Are you setting up a NetConnection.connect which points to http url, or are they using rtmp?

Hi Brooks,

Check out the flash file format documentation. It describes the screencapture file format as simple gzip compressed jpegs, since these are both pretty well understood algorithms, this should be possible to understand fairly easily. To gain acces to it might be difficult or impossible directly though. The camera and microphone data is contained within the rtmp stream, so there isn't direct access to it. You might be able to access the image data via the new bitmap functions, but i don't know if you can access the audio data at all.

Just letting you know what I know. Hope it helps.

Yah, I'm actually looking to do "breeze style" screen capture and just trying to wrap my head around how it can be done.

I'm pretty sure the audio gets compressed to .mp3.  The Video is Flash Video.

Are you looking at a client-only solution for screen capture?

Anyone out there who can give me the low down on how audio and video compression of Camera and Microphone streams is handled by the Flash Player? What does this stream get compressed to (mp3 etc). Also, if any of you can give me any pointers on how screen capture with Flash can be best accomplished I'd love to hear about it.

Regards,

Brooks
