Hi men.  I´m in the same problem.
The metrics is very useful, but deprecated in flash 8. :(
You can work with Selection Object, but to know the correct position of the CARET (|) you need to know the text size, spacing, indent, and others more.
All this things are possible but when you resize the text area and wordwrap happened you got problems.
