There are still some features that aren't working quite right at the moment. Webcam streaming is one of these. I know that we had it working in a limited fashion for the Spark conference in Amsterdam. You can build this version yourself by downloading and compiling the source code from our SVN repository. The next release (0.4) should have this feature more thoroughly supported. As we have been mentioning on our mailing list, we don't recommend actually trying to build applications with the server until at least the 0.6 release. We however don't want to prevent people from playing with it though, so feel free to do so. 2. As a flash coder, one of my great expectations from FMS was that Macromedia will open up the Desktop Streaming functionality to us. However, it seems it wont happen that way. I might be wrong but is Macromedia scared that we will end up challenging Breeze if the Desktop Streaming functionality was included in FMS? Anyway, my main query is - will Red5 support Desktop Streaming functionality? I think Peter Elst got this right in his reply. It's a separate application that does the desktop sharing. Now you could certainly look into creating your own client that could hook up to Red5 to accomplish this though. 3. I have already started asking many webhosts about running Red5 on their servers once it is commercially released. However, the reputed hosts don't want to run a java server program on their servers. Does this community include people who are into hosting as well? I ask this because it will be very tough for us actionscript developers if hosts don't run this. Yes indeed! There is a tremendous amount of interest from several folks on the mailing list to provide hosting for the Red5 server. John Grden even put up a page on the wiki for hosting providers to let us know of features that will be important to them so that we make sure we produce a product that can easily be hosted.
