I had a similar discussion with a couple of colleagues a while back and
the general consensus was that an open source Flash player could only
work if the initiative came from Macromedia/Adobe with different
workgroups so that projects could be integrated in one official player
release.
I'd love to see something like that happening but not sure if its
feasible and/or interesting enough for Adobe to pursue.

No prob, I completely understand the issues, and it's not in my interest to
pursue that line of development - I'm going to use it for other things
altogether.
Just trying to figure out what could happen to me in an extreme situation.
