I suspected it would be somehow possible with the new bitmap features of 
the Flash Player 8. Even though video would not be viable to capture 
this way, this could be a nice way to implement features like drawing 
over photos, photo-montages etc. I think sephiroth.it has a better 
example of an application that does just that.

About RED5, seems promising! Any chance of it being ported to PHP?
