Hi all,
There have been a lot of threads on this list over the last few months
(and longer) asking about our polcies around AMF, relation to third
party and/or open source AMF implementations, whether we would publish
the specification, etc. In December I weighed in on a thread and said
"hey, we are working on it."
It is January now and I wanted to make sure folks know we haven't lost
the thread. We did just go through a massive merger and integration
with Adobe and I am sure you can image how distracting that was in
December. But, that said I wanted to let you know I just got out of a
meeting with Kevin Lynch, Mike C (and a bunch of folks you might not
know) and we are indeed making progress.
This is just an interim note, because I know as a corporation we can
seem like a black hole to the community on topics like this. I think in
the next 30, 60, or 90 days (hopefully earlier) we will be able to make
a specific statement of direction on this and we are trying to come up
with a set of policies that are simple and clear and answer the
questions many of you have been asking us. Just wanted to update you
with a timetable so it isn't hanging out there in limbo,
David

Ps. FYI for context: I now run the Developer and Enterprise Business
Unit at Adobe (that includes Flex, CF, LiveCycle); Kevin Lynch runs the
Platform group (that includes Flash Player, Adobe Reader, "Apollo" and
the overall platform view and developer relations.). Of course, we all
work together pretty closely.
