I think that they are looking to write unit tests for whatever language Gnash is
written in, and need a bunch of SWF samples to test with.

Someone name Hoshi has recently posted on the MTASC list that he's made MTASC
work on the server-side, which is pretty much what Ming does AFAIK.  This might
prove to be more useful for them as it will generate Flash 8 and 7 SWFs.
