I know the pain and remember having the exact same issues. Some of the (video)tutorials may be not be very up to date anymore (Flashout is so 2005 man!).
I remember that when I went through the FAME setup process for the first time (oh yeah, I did have to try more than once ;-) I had to do some weird update routine to get ASDT up to a new version that wasn't available for download but only through eclipse. I think I also added 3 pulverised chicken beaks and a handful of finely chopped scales from a common carp caught under a midsummer's moonlight before it would run. Something to that effect anyway. That said it seemed easier to get a copy of FDT, bang that on and never look back. Or why not run FlashDevelop - in both cases you can compile with MTASC. All good.
