Hi Dani,

Since Flex 2 SDK will be free like the Java SDK, we have the basic puzzle pieces to develop our own enviroment for example using eclipse, ANT,.... But I suppose that as Java tools evolved in the past the same will happen to AS3. Other IDE's like ASDT or FlashDevelop will evolve as well to support AS3 and the Flash Player 9 features and will compete with Flex Builder 2 (and maybe "Blaze" in the future).

IMHO, Open Source Flash Projects will be mainly as Open Source Java Projects, where we don't need to worry about to develop a compiler as we have already a free compiler and a framework and can focus our efforts in develop other open source frameworks and tools.

The next step for Adobe will be to continue taking the good and succesful things that works for Java technology in the past like JCP where 4 millions of developers join to make the plataform even better and share their code, but maintaining the specs closed to avoid forks and always keeping the plataform in the best possible way.

Hi, Flash 9 (better known as Flash 8.5) was announced. I'm wondering on how we could compile AS3 with and open source/free environment like MTASC.

Nicolas Canesse has announced to not continue the development of MTASC, so it won't have AS3 support.

Now, i think it's time to find a way to do that...
