Just heard back from Albert, and I quote:

It seems the C64 never dies.  That was one of my career highlights.”

Hey Darron and Claus,

First off congrats – that really is cool to see the blue screen! All I need is the sound of my old floppy  drive grinding away and I’m ready to start writing BASIC again. :)  Love to see this adapted for 6502 and the ASICS for an Atari – I liked my C64, but my Atari was my favorite.

Actually, the main reason I am posting, is to let you know that I worked with Albert Charpentier on a project for his company Intellifit, over the the last few years.  Albert
was the Vice President of Engineering at Commodore Computers where he led the development team responsible for the Commodore 64. So I shot him an email today about the project and links to everything. He is pretty busy running Intellifit, but I hope to hear back from him soon to see what he thinks. Thought it would be cool to get his thoughts about it. :)

I’ll be sure to share here with everyone when I hear back from him.

Rob

here's the original swf (beware, it's going to max out your processor,

(flash player 9 beta 3 required)
(screen gets initialized around frame number 100)

Don't forget to test this with the release Flash Player:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/public_beta/

The debug player (that ships with FlexBuilder) runs it at ~16 frames per second on my computer.  The release player runs at ~63 frames per second.

So.. yeah, AS3 is fast enough after all (there's still more to add, but it should run at "real time" when all is said and done).  :-D
