On the last thread about this topic, someone suggested moving towards
a monthly osFlash user's group. I think that's a good idea. There're
other Flash related user groups in the Bay Area (SFMMUF
[http://www.sfmmuf.org/], BAADAUG [http://www.baadaug.org/], and
SilVaFUG [http://www.silvafug.org/]), but I don't find it useful to
attend those very often. The most useful group that I attend is the
San Francisco Design Patterns Study Group
(http://www.asserttrue.com/articles/2006/06/14/san-francisco-design-patterns-study-group-meeting-tonight).

The patterns study group is more interesting for a few reasons. The
first is that the topic covered is consistantly one that I'm
interested in. The second is that the group is small, personal, and
equally skilled (everyone comes prepared to discuss a specific
pattern). And, the third is that it's less of a social group than the
others and more of a learning one. Attendees of the patterns group
aren't looking for work; they're looking for knowledge. Carbon 5
hosts a Java group called Kirestu that has a similar feel. Every
patterns meeting gets me thinking and teaches me something. An
osFlash group that did the same would be a good one.

I lean towards meeting on August 28th with the agenda of seeing how
many people show up and getting to know one another. Maybe one person
could even present, or we could all choose a project to study and
discuss? If there're enough people, then maybe a monthly meeting
could be planned.

I'd be happy to present on or study and discuss any of the projects
I'm interested in - AsUnit (http://www.asunit.org/), haXe
(http://www.haxe.org/), SWHX (http://www.haxe.org/swhx), ActionStep
(http://www.actionstep.org/), or cross-platform desktop applications
with XULRunner and SWF
(http://www.osflash.org/pipermail/osflash_osflash.org/2006-February/007659.html).

What do you think?
