The problems with categories is that since each project is very
specific, it's pretty difficult to group them into meaningful groups.

For instance if we make a category "Multimedia" then a lot (read : too
many) projects might fit in that category, with some samples such as
Red5 or Sandy which have very different audience.

If OTOH you make more precise categories like "3D" or "Video" then
you'll end up with 1-2 projects per category.

It would be an interesting exercice to list all the projects on OSFlash
and try to get them fit into 4-6 meaningful categories, but I'm not sure
that's feasible. Providing a short one-line description for each project
is more precise and helpful, especially when the project maturity and
target audience are clearly specified.
