Hello, we are currently using Macromedia's FCS 1.5 in a production environment. As this version is outdated and licence caused bandwidth limitations may become a problem in the future, I've been looking for a more flexible and less expensive solution and found Red5.
Looking at the website documents, Red5 should still be considered beta, but will have production stability within less than a year (correct me if I'm wrong). I also understand that it's not possible to simply point a Flash client application (conferencing tool using streaming audio/video, chat and presentation components) to a Red5 server instead of FCS and expect it to work. Instead we would have to write handlers on our own that come standard with FCS. Is that correct? Is there any chance that such a higher level of compatibility will be reached within a reasonable time span? Is there possibly already a project on the way trying to achieve that? How much time do you think would it take to develop server side components for streaming audio/video, pager, shared pointer (smaller changes in the client apps should not be a problem)? I hope this question has not been asked too often, but I couldn't find detailed answers on the Red5 website. Feel free to give me a RTFM if you have any URL to point me to. But please consider I'm just a dump system administrator and PHP developer, not much into Java ;-) Thanks in advance for your answers Stefan _______________________________________________ osflash mailing list [email protected] http://osflash.org/mailman/listinfo/osflash_osflash.org
