Nice TOPIC, I also agree HFDP is a great book.
It's usefull for me, a paper a pencil and some "patterns" in hand so you can draw a model and see what pattern will fix in your uml-diagram.

You can register to oreilly and read some chapters, also if you buy any oreilly book you can register it (ISBN) and read some others-online without restriction.
