Hi all,
I was wondering whether anybody knew of a work placement in London, UK, for 2-8 weeks in the July/August 2007 period. I'm proficient in lots of acronyms like AS, MXML, XHTML, CSS, JS, PHP, MYSQL and I care about words like usability, accessibility and pragmatism. I would add more buzzwords, but I can't currently think, maybe later. I can send you my resume on request. For the past year or so I've been running my own website development business with my friends. We've been doing pretty well, considering how hesitant some people are about handing over their business to "a bunch of kids"...some people, eh? We are currently working on a couple of sites which will hopefully go live pretty soon. Though I'm sure clients and their feedback will find something to change at the last minute. We shall all wait in anticipation. Moving swiftly on... During this time I've learnt a lot about not only the technical side but also how to handle people, time and resources. I would like to learn more about this though. How does a real company operate? What policies are adhered to? Is it all just suits and ties? Switching over to the technical side, I'd say my conquests into software has been pretty "lite". Now I want to learn about how more industrial systems work. Anybody can build a system. But what are the challenges involved when it has to handle thousands of concurrent users 24/7. Stuff like load balancing, scalability, server farms... you get the picture. I think working at a large corporation or a company that handles this sort of thing would be very beneficial. It's all well and good having the technical know how (and I barely fit into that category), but it's of no use if it's meaningless in the real world. So what's in it for you? Well I'm hardworking, determined, talented and willing to learn. I'm more interested in the work rather than the money (if any, I don't really mind), because for me knowledge is far more important than wealth. You get that warm and fuzzy feeling of helping someone out, and I might even remember you after my rise to inevitable fame... (I would use a smilie now, but I can't decide which one...) On a related note, I was wondering whether anyone had any advice for me on my quest for a summer job. People I could contact, avenues of attack, sites I could visit etc It'd be a real help! Thanks for reading this, Omi
