The other example I just posted which i have working doesnt give you the 
firefox 
chrome, just the page render which is exactly what i need :)

of course, for more control over swf image captures this probably isnt the way 
to go as you say.

I think that working with gnash would probably be the quickest route to success 
at the moment, probably combined with the x virtual frame buffer for headless 
server setups.
