I've a client interested in doing text effects like this (with text
being dynamic from some kind of database):

I.e. each letter has a border. I think I can do this by drawing each
letter in say 72pt in one colour, then drawing the same letter on top in
say 64pt. As I need to do this letter by letter I need to take care of
kerning.

I wondered if there already existed some open source library that
already does this, before I reinvent the wheel. Or does the new Flash 10
text support do this out-of-the-box? (Similarly, I do drop shadows by
drawing the text first in black, offset a few pixels, then the same text
on top in the real colour; is there an easier way nowadays?)

*: For the curious, that is three Japanese characters, read as
o-kono-mi, meaning your favourite (something), or (something done in)
the way you like it.
