I have gone for the approach of returning an empty string from
findDataFile() when there is a server address at the front of the
filename, this will prevent the local files from being picked up
un-intentionally, and also save a little time in terms of searches in
the local filesystem when the file is never going to be found there.
Fingers cross there won't be any regressions because of this. I can't
think of any right now.... but testing will certainly be needed
across a wide range of applications to make sure.
Changes now checked into svn/trunk.
